The Wyndham Players

Xaria’s Worst Acting Troupe

General
The Wyndham Players are a motley assortment of a few second and mostly third-rate actors. It can safely be said that to date, none of their historical plays or portrayals of persons real or fictitious have been remotely accurate.

Devices and Uniforms
The Wyndham Players have no uniform clothing or device that they wear. Each member of the acting troupe supplies his or her own clothing and wardrobe. The troupe also has a “wardrobe,” which is in actuality a chest of castoffs and secondhand clothing and somewhat lackluster costume pieces and props.

As they consider themselves “actors” most of them dress richly or flamboyantly even when not on stage, in order to better draw attention to themselves.

Goal
To entertain the public with their wit and prowess on the stage.

Territory
The Wyndham Players (much to the dismay of nobles and commoners alike) have been known to perform throughout the known lands.

Genesis
What is known is that the Wyndham Players were originally formed in 497 by Master Wyndham, Bryony's wealthy merchant father, as an indulgence of his daughter's ego (and possibly a tax dodge). Since then, the company has gained a degree of autonomy, though Bryony Wyndham's authority has yet to be successfully overthrown by any of the core members of the troupe.

Past
(More to be added prior to 501)

In September of 501, The Wyndham Players Troupe were performing for the Festival of Na Na'Hroth in Quivera. It was here that they debuted their play "Torch and Wolf" depicting the "true" tale of the origin of the conflict between Halgudar and Rynith. They were also subsequently commissioned to perform a play given to them by a wealthy patron. This play, as it turned out, was actually an elaborate spell that when completed, aligned the underworld with the land of Xaria. Other adventurers were able to restore the natural order of the realms, but not before several demons and evil creatures escaped into the land, including the former ruler of the underworld, Caspian the Crimson King.

The Wyndhams were never accused of any wrongdoing in this act as they were neither intentionally performing this dark magik ritual, nor were they clever enough to have designed such a feat.

Following their performance in Quivera, the troupe was invited to travel to Myere to the home of a self-proclaimed demi-god, the monkey beastman calling himself "The Hajiman." The Troupe accepted and spent more than a year enjoying the opulence of the Hajiman's compound, surrounded by feasts, wine and women. The Hajiman commissioned a play from the Wyndhams, and thus they wrote and performed "Hajiman on the High Seas" for months.

Eventually, Bryony realized that she could never achieve her ultimate fame and fortune being the bird in the gilded cage. Xaria would never come to know and love her if she never left. She decided that the Troupe would leave and resume their travels and performances throughout the lands.

Rannulf was not pleased by this decision. He and Bryony argued heatedly. In late 502 the Players left the Hajiman's compound with Rannulf remaining behind.

The Wyndham Players have been performing throughout the lands of Xaria since that time. In October, the Wyndhams were hired to perform for the countrymen of Lindora, in celebration of "the joining" (the anniversary of the forming of their country). At about the same time, Rannulf left his life of luxury and rejoined the troupe for reasons not completely explained.

Present
The Wyndhams performed their newest and possibly most controversial play at the Inn of the Two Blades near the Lindoran/Halgudar border. At the end of the evening, much to the dismay of the other travelers and bar patrons, a severe snowstorm had essentially trapped the Wyndhams at the Inn for several months. Since the roads cleared, the Wyndhams have continued on their way and are once again at large.

Alliances
For a time, the Wyndham players had a Patron in Lady Olivia Goslar from DeMekrium. They have also been hired to perform exclusively for an entire season for the Myerean self-proclaimed Demi-God the Hajiman. Currently, they have been commissioned by a new patron who wishes to remain anonymous. This patron has already commissioned and paid for a new play with the expectation that it will be performed in the next season.

Enemies
Various artists, playwrights, actors, and anyone with a modicum of good taste.

Leadership & Divisions
There is the lead actress, diva and founder of the troop, Bryony Wyndham, to whom all Players must acquiesce. Then there is Rannulf D'Armagnac, the lead actor, only slightly less a diva than Bryony. After Rannulf we have Sebastian J. Foley, the troup's most prolific playwright. Following, we have Doyle, the stage manager, who often runs out his temper trying to keep the productions moving forward through all the internal drama and turmoil.

Code & Prohibitions
"The show must go on!"
"All the world's on stage!"

Recruitment
Each new player is recruited in either solely by the Lead Actress Bryony Wyndham or her counterpart Rannulf D’Armagnac. But the entire troupe has been known to hold loud round table discussions about the hiring of new blood as well.

Members
The Wyndham Players are:
Bryony Wyndham (Jen Groninger)
Rannulf D’Armagnac (Devin Parker)
Sebastian J. Foley (Dave Miner Jr)
Malvolio (Aaron Lyle)
Rupprecht (Mike Budzik)
Jean Baptiste (Paul Eppleston)
Cybil (Becky Davis)
Stu (Dale Brodt)

Doyle (Andrew G)

Generally Known
The Wyndham Players are the worst acting troupe in all of Xaria. Though it has not been proven, they are the likely the worst actors in the entire world. They write and perform all their own works. For some strange reason, persons with strange or no taste continually become their patrons and commission new plays and hire them for prolonged performances.

Every play that is “historical" in nature is wrought with inaccuracies and downright falsehoods.

And nary a one of them has talent to speak of.

In-Character Quote
“I’m no hero! I only play a hero on the stage! Now I think I should run away.”
-Rannulf D’Armagnac, upon facing hordes of undead
